No, you don't. Our water bikes are designed as a catamaran model which has two tube pontoons that cause the bike to be very stable and safe. This helps make riding our water bikes easier than a normal bike as you don’t have to worry about balance, allowing you to just focus on pedalling.
Yes, they are safe. The water bike itself acts as a flotation device. We also provide a life jacket with the hire of our water bikes for riders' safety. We will also have a GPS tracker as well to help keep both rider and the bike safe.
No, you don’t have to get wet when riding our water bikes as the frame of the bike on the two inflatable pontoons keeps you well above the water while pedalling. Although we recommend wearing togs as your lower legs will get wet when mounting or dismounting the water bike and in the case of an accidental slip or fall into the water.
No, for our services we will be using schiller water bikes which are manually powered by your pedalling, which is easier than you would think. This allows for a longer ride time as the bikes don’t have to be recharged.
Important items to bring when riding one of our water bikes are water, a hat, sunglasses, sunblock, and a jacket as it get windy.
We do not recommend riding the water bike in winds over 15 knots or in waves over 0.5 meters in height.
We have two frames that each has their height requirements.
Small/Medium Frame (157cm - 178cm/5' 2" - 5' 10")
Large/XL Frame (175cm - 195cm/5' 9" - 6' 5")
The minimum height to ride one of the water bikes is 1.5m and the maximum weight is about 200kg as the bike can hold two(2) adults or one(1) adult and two(2) children.
The cruising speed of our bikes is about 5 knots, though you can get up to speeds just over 8 knots. According to Maritime NZ regulations you can ride the water bike at a maximum speed of 5 knots if you’re within 200 meters of the shore or within 50 meters of swimmers and boats.
Our schiller water bike weighs just about 45kg while assembling the bike takes up to 10 minutes.
Yes, you can go fishing while riding on your own water bike. However, in terms of renting our water bikes, you are not allowed to use the bike as a fishing platform and should stay away from people fishing at a minimum of 30 meters.
We recommend that children under 13 years old be supervised by an adult.
